Joseph’s Experience

October 22, 2024

Joseph Baguios Co-op

“My Davis Martindale co-op experience started on the month of January of 2022. It was during the tail-end of the pandemic lockdowns. Amid that cold winter, there was a cautious, yet hopeful air in the surroundings. It was also during that time that Davis Martindale completed its move to Westmount Commons. Everything seems auspicious, the new year, new environment, new offices, new faces, new experiences. It was terrifying. I did not know what to expect; there were several new people starting with me, but I was the lone co-op student during that time. In fact, many of my new peers were previous co-op students coming back to Davis Martindale as full-time hires. I felt like a fish out of water.

However, all the awkwardness and unease seem to disappear immediately the moment I got to know the managers and the partners. Right from the start, they have always emphasized that we are a teaching firm and that our growth will be prioritized. I have been warned that the learning curve will be steep, but I will not be alone. There will be help at every step of the way if I need it. And I really did feel it. I have had countless stumbles and falls during this journey, there were hard and difficult times, but it is very reassuring to know that there will always be someone there to help you get back up. From the very start of this journey, it was instilled to me that “it takes a village”. Davis Martindale has provided me an amazing environment to grow and flourish, my peers and managers have become my friends and teachers. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to have this opportunity and I will endeavor to provide the same experience, the same kindness and warmth, to the new batch of people to come.”
